Champs, Chumps, and Triumph - wrestling RPG

Post by mean_liar »

So, here's that wrestling RPG I've been working on sporadically for the past six months:

https://rapidshare.com/files/3589382145 ... 120221.pdf

It's missing sample NPCs. All I intend to do here is make a list of every awesome wrestler ever, stop when I hit #40, and then write up parallel-universe versions of them, but I haven't done that yet. Macho Man v Big Van Vader! Ric Flair v El Gigante! Tiger Mask v Mankind! Road Warriors v Giant Baba and Tsuruta! Stone Cold and Hulk Hogan v The Four Horsemen!

The main design intent is to create not only a wrestling game (limited appeal, oh noes), but also a generic game about dudes fighting one-on-one in arenas: mod-able to fantasy, post-apocalypse, Street Fighter, Romance of the Three Kingdoms (arenas-as-battlefields), that kind of thing, but I haven't worked out specifics in that regard. It's do-able for sure, just a matter of effort really.

There is no art. I intend, at some point, to scour public domain images. I haven't.

I'm missing some other stuff too, like play aid flowcharts and whatever else, but the skeleton is definitely there. Take a look, let me know what you think.

Interesting choice in die-rolls, why the +/- instead of a +2d6 v. +7?

It seemed easier to do the +/- rather than v 7 due to the effect that decision has on the target numbers: rather than -3/0/3/6 being the breakpoints, the breakpoints would be 4/7/10/13, and that felt a little clunkier.

Seeing as how the odds are the same, I suppose I should put in a note about that in the opening mechanics section for those that would rather just roll and add rather than do the +/- operation.

Sorry; I haven't been on here in months.

A new link is here:

I've been tinkering with this (and three other games), but this is the closest to completion. I've managed to do half of the 30+ NPCs I wanted to have completed with the game, but it's complete enough to do a rules review.

I'd love to know what you or anyone else thinks about this.

EDIT - In fact, I think I've done very little with this in the past year. Well... there you go. :P On the upside, my Warhammer Quest-meets-Giant Robots-meets-strategic wargame is coming along, and my fantasy heartbreaker as well.

And now that my oldest is 5, I've started to look at how to do kid RPGs.
